Cockburn, like many areas of Perth and WA, is a thriving cultural melting pot. We celebrate our multiculturalism annually at the City of Cockburn Cultural Fair. This year the event was held on Saturday, 10 April. Last year’s event was put on hold due to the global pandemic, but it was back bigger and better than ever at Harmony Oval, Atwell. Friends of the Community were proud once again to provide our delicious food and drinks to the attendees.

A huge turnout of nearly 80 stalls, featuring a variety of food and wares to buy, ensured family fun and feasting. This is a 70 per cent increase on stalls for this event since it was last held in 2019, and with around 80 per cent local businesses. The Fair hosted the grand final of the Cockburn’s Got Talent quest, which was enjoyed by all.

The free entertainment line-up kept everyone bopping along to some infectious beats. Perth crowd-pleasers Soukouss Internationale, a multicultural collective of skilful performers showcasing the iconic Congolese musical style known as ‘soukouss’, which means ‘shake it’ had the crowd on their feet. Other amazing entertainers include the SegaLoya Dance troupe from the Indian Ocean islands of La Reunion, Madagascar and Mauritius, Chili Con Curly with its roots, funk, reggae and Latin dance beats, and Italyicious duo Fifi Mondello and Valerio Fiorini performing ‘la musica Italian’.
